On May 16, Beijing Jingping International Land Port Operation Development Co., Ltd. signed a cooperation framework agreement with Sinotrans North China Co., Ltd. Starting from July this year, Beijing will launch regular China-Europe freight-train service (Beijing-Moscow) from the Beijing-Pinggu Comprehensive Logistics Hub in Mafang Town, Pinggu District, Beijing.
On March 16, 2023, Beijing’s first China-Europe Railway Express departed from Mafang in Pinggu District. A total of 55 40-foot containers of construction materials, home appliances, and clothes, among others, were loaded onto the train at the Freight Yard of Mafang Railway Station of the Beijing-Pinggu Comprehensive Logistics Hub. The train left China via the Manzhouli Railway Port, travelling westward to its destination in Moscow, the capital of Russia. It opened a new corridor for international trade, making Mafang the starting point for Beijing’s integration into the Belt and Road Initiative.
Over the past year, Pinggu District has opened two Russian good stores in Jinhaihu Town and Mafang Town to showcase and sell Russian specialty goods, meeting the diverse and international consumption demands of Beijing citizens. Various activities such as fairs, concerts, and oil painting exhibitions have been organized to promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and Russia.
Leveraging its partnership with Sinotrans, the Beijing-Pinggu Comprehensive Logistics Hub aims to further enhance the frequency, freight volume, and transportation efficiency of the China-Europe Railway Express. As per the agreement, both parties will focus on developing an international land port freight train platform for imports and exports around Beijing, innovating logistics services, and providing comprehensive services across the international freight train import and export chain. The goal is to promote the development of international logistics channels centered around the China-Europe Freight Train (Beijing-Moscow), establishing a two-way freight corridor along the Eurasian Land Bridge. This will lower logistics costs, improve cargo turnover efficiency, and establish Beijing as a model for the regular operation of China-Europe Railway Express.
