From April 13 to 14, Beijing Foreign Affairs Office organized the 2023 training program for district-level foreign affairs departments on building the center for international exchanges, with the aim of fully implementing the guiding principles of the fifth plenary meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and the sixth plenary meeting of the Leading Group for Improving Beijing's Role as the Center for International Exchanges, and providing guidance to the foreign affairs departments of districts on building a high-quality center for international exchanges. Feng Jian, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director General of Beijing Foreign Affairs Office, gave a keynote presentation.
In addition to fully recognizing the achievements of each district in building the center for international exchanges over the past year, the meeting also analyzed the districts’ performance in the comprehensive monitoring and evaluation system on the building of the center for international exchanges and the special reports on related work, and gave instructions to each district in analyzing problems, identifying shortcomings, and defining goals and priorities.
The meeting pointed out that it is necessary to accurately understand the new conditions, tasks, and requirements, and work for the overall goal of building an international exchange center with Chinese characteristics and global influence. Focus should be placed on supporting the country’s overall diplomacy and the capital’s high-quality development as two major tasks, and building facilities and upgrading service capacity as two priorities. Efforts should be made to further enhance Beijing’s functions as the center for international exchange, highlight such a role in urban planning, construction and management, and accomplish the city's annual tasks with high standards and quality.
The meeting called on the foreign affairs departments to coordinate the effort of their respective districts in building the center for international exchanges, and encouraged them to strengthen overall planning, take innovative approaches, improve working mechanisms and skills, and enhance communication, in an effort to secure new gains in improving Beijing's role as the center for international exchanges.
Leading officials from the foreign affairs departments of the sixteen districts and the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (BDA) attended the program. The leading departments of each special task force of the leading group gave topic-specific presentations. Officials from Haidian, Tongzhou, Shunyi, Daxing, and Huairou districts also made remarks.
