On the morning of January 5, Yin Li, Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Beijing Municipal Committee, had a virtual meeting with Brian L. Roberts, Chairman and CEO of Comcast Corporation.
Yin Li expressed his gratitude to Comcast for its contribution to Beijing's socio-economic development, acknowledging the progress the city made last year. Beijing is now guided by the overall plan to advance Chinese modernization, as initiated at the 20th CPC National Congress, and is striving to improve its response to Covid-19, resume normal production and life, ease enterprises' difficulties, and encourage investment and consumption. We will unswervingly pursue higher-level opening-up and aim to attract and effectively utilize foreign capital to create more opportunities and broader space for foreign enterprises in the city. Beijing expects closer cooperation with Comcast to better run the Universal Beijing Resort, including ticketing development, signature activity design, and the upgrading of merchandise and catering, so as to unlock China's vast tourism consumption potential and attract more tourists and spending. Additionally, Beijing plans to develop a follow-up project that is more Chinese-style and incorporates 5G and AI technologies, thus creating more opportunities for entertainment experiences with cutting-edge technologies. Business forms such as creative design, animation and games, and show business and entertainment will be instrumental in driving the growth of peripheral industries. Having witnessed, experienced and benefited from the China-US cooperation, Comcast is encouraged to continue playing an active role in bilateral trade and economic cooperation, contributing to the mutually beneficial relationship between the two countries.
Mr. Roberts thanked Beijing for its support and assistance to Comcast, and highlighted the joint efforts between Beijing and Comcast to continuously improve the operation and management of Universal Beijing Resort. Through the implementation of quality projects that combine technology, culture, and tourism, they aim to enhance visitors' experience. Comcast is committed to playing its part in expanding mutually beneficial cooperation between the US and China.
Jeff Shell, CEO of NBCUniversal, Mark Woodbury, chairman and CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences, and Cui Shuqiang, a leader from the municipal government, attended the meeting.
