On the morning of July 19, Chen Jining, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and Mayor of Beijing, visited Mentougou District to inspect its work on economic and social development and flood prevention. He stressed the need to earnestly study and implement the guiding principles of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech at the ceremony marking the centenary of the Communist Party of China, ground our work on this new stage of development, apply the new development philosophy and integrate into the new development paradigm. Mentougou should uphold its status as one of the districts designated for ecological conservation, plan for more niche industries and sectors, create quality products, highlight its characteristics, upgrade to new growth drivers and focus on cultivating and stimulating the vitality of high-quality growth. Mayor Chen also emphasized the need to strengthen research on the pattern of geological disasters such as rainfall-induced landslides, improve response measures, strengthen the application of science and technology, improve monitoring and early warning capabilities, and protect the lives and property of the people.
The Mingzhu Glazed Tile Factory located in Liuliqu Village, Longquan Town, is planned to be transformed into Liuli Cultural and Creative Industrial Park. Mayor Chen inspected the construction progress of the park and stressed that the park should serve Beijing's development as a center for international exchanges, expand business and foreign-affairs-related services and foster greater attractiveness. When visiting the Liuli Museum, he pointed out that we should mobilize villagers to actively participate in the protection of traditional villages, achieve shared growth through collaboration, improve services and help villagers to increase income. He noted that targeted activities should be carried out to promote traditional crafts and strengthen the cultivation of talent for intangible cultural heritage to ensure that skills are carried forward with vibrancy. Mayor Chen visited the village hostels at Shuiyuzui Village in Miaofengshan Town, stating that it is necessary to work harder to make Mentougou Village Hostels a brand, improve the operation model, train professional teams, build more high-quality projects, and enhance the quality and influence of the brand. In the Wangping Village coal mine, Mayor Chen asked about the future development and use of the area after its closure. Also, he required the development of Menda Railway and four coal mines in the district to follow plans, stay market-oriented, and further refine their design so that the industrial heritage can "come back to life" and play an effective role. Along the way, the mayor checked efforts to prevent floods in the mountains and landslide clean-up. On Qingqian Highway, the mayor provided on-the-spot guidance in addressing the landslide, and required more patrol and science-based response to rainfall-induced geological disasters.
Chen Jining presided over the on-site meeting and pointed out that Mentougou District should further concentrate efforts on delivering quality and fine products, tap the strength of the mountain economy, and work hard to improve businesses, culture, tourism, and agriculture, suiting local conditions to boost development momentum and advantages. He asked Mentougou District to set eyes on the overall situation of regional economic and social development, plan roads and other infrastructure construction based on science, focus on its integration with industrial development, consider the introduction of specialized and sophisticated educational institutions or projects, enhance the spillover effect, and improve the elements and ecology of regional innovation and development. Mayor Chen urged the relevant departments of the Beijing Municipal Government to strengthen the guidance and targeted support for the work of Mentougou District, work together for synergy, and actively explore new ways of high-quality development of ecological conservation district. The mayor also stressed the need to strengthen flood control in mountainous areas, prevent and make preparations for landslides and secondary disasters, troubleshoot and brace for potential geological disasters, effectively respond to hidden dangers, and coordinate development and safety.
